Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education
The certificate course is expected to capture those individuals who are interested in this area but were not able for one reason or another to get higher academic grades. The graduates of this programme will be expected to work at grass root levels and especially with communities in ensuring that prospective mothers provide quality care to young children. In addition, these graduates may be deployed in children homes and in religious and non-governmental organizations dealing with young children.
The minimum duration for the full time residential programme is a period of two semesters and
three sessions for the institutional based mode (August, December, and April).
Entry Requirements
A Mean grade of C- (minus) in KCSE or equivalent or minimum of D+ with one year of relevant experience in Early Childhood programme with at least a D+ in either English or Kiswahili.
Certification
The programme will lead to the award of a Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
Examination
The final written examination will constitute 70% of the total mark while the continuous assessment and assignments will constitute 30%.The pass mark of each course shall be 50%.
Course Structure
The program consists of 12 units (including teaching practice and attachment). In order to qualify for the award of the certificate candidate must pass all the 17 units. The distribution of the units is as follows:
