BACHELOR OF ARTS IN DESIGN WITH IT (INTERIOR DESIGN)

INTRODUCTION:

Interior design involves a range of related projects that are involved in making any interior space into an effective setting for whatever variety of human activities that are to take place there. It involves the design and construction of building interiors including homes, commercial and retail office space, laboratories, hospitals, computing areas, hotel and resort developments, restaurants, theatres, museums and gallery exhibitions and displays.

The programme emphasizes design process, technical skills development, problem solving, and the management skills needed to work in collaboration with the allied design professions. Special attention is given to preparation in building bridges between the academic world, the professions, and industry. Students are expected to integrate aesthetic values into the spaces they design and consider aspirations of the world in which they live. The goal is to create quality environments for human use.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The programme is designed to:

2.1 Provide the necessary educational background and training for those wishing to enter interior design profession.

2.2 Help the student acquire inter-disciplinary knowledge and techniques in addressing interior design issues of concern to the community.

2.3 Develop ability in the student to investigate, analyze and present research findings on interior design projects.

2.4 Assist the student in developing creative and innovative skills that will contribute to their professional folio of work.

2.5 Assist to student in synthesizing and expressing original ideas on design styles and procedures that contribute to their imaginative growth and aesthetic wellbeing.

2.6 Acquaint the student with varied materials, media and designs that are available in our society.

2.7 Prepare students for postgraduate studies.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

To be admitted to the Interior Design programme: –

3.1 Candidates must have obtained the minimum University admission requirements.

3.2 Candidates must satisfy admission requirements to the Faculty.

PROGRAMME DURATION

The duration for the Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) degree shall normally be four academic years.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

5.1 Electives courses are offered in all semesters. Candidates must take an elective IT course in each semester in addition to the core IT course.

5.2 Candidates may take any one or two elective courses (6 units) over and above 42 units in any of the years after consultation with the Dean and Head of Department.
