EARLY CHILDHOOD AND PRIMARY EDUCATION

Introducuction
Any teacher education programme should not merely provide its trainers with knowledge that they will in turn transfer to their learners; it should equip the trainees with knowledge on how to provide for the overall development of the child – socially, physically, intellectually, and psychologically.
The world is experiencing an increasing need for early childhood care, provided by well-trained individuals who can initiate formal learning that is relevant to the age level of the child. Diploma in Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education is a programme aimed at equipping teachers with skills relevant to teaching, setting up and managing ECDE Centres, and providing child care in varied institutions such as hospitals, orphanages, rehabilitation centres, and church organizations.

In addition, applications will be accepted from candidates who meet any of the following qualification:
1. P1 Certificate.
2. A KNEC Certificate in Early Childhood Education or Ministry of Education Certificate with at least D+ (plus) or its equivalent.
Mode of Study
The Diploma in Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education programme shall normally take two (2) years. The programme will be taken at either of the following modes:
• School Based (6 sessions, with a three-month • teaching practice and a one-month practicum)
• Regular (4 semesters, with a three-month teaching • practice and a one-month practicum; to run concurrently with University programmes)
